To many Aboriginal kids, English is a new language they learn when they start school. Cherbourg State School in Queensland has a great program to assist language learning.
Hyde Park Press has been pleased to collaborate with not-for-profit publisher Budburra Books and Ratartat Art (Victorians Peter Widmer and Geoff Bonney) to produce books the students have written and illustrated themselves.

Cherbourg School initiated their Books, Books, Books project to engage students in literacy and language learning and embed teaching practices that appeal to a range of learning styles and needs.
The end product is that every class creates a book as well as participating in all the processes leading to professional book production.

Under instruction from various skilled professionals as well as their teachers, the students have expressed their pride in themselves, their school and their commmunity.
The eight titles so far produced may be purchased from the school.
